Can someone tell me the formula for heart rate and BPM?


I just bought this watch that is equiped with a heart rate moniter. I have a heart murmur and my rate flucuates as is- But What I am asking is-

Say my resting Heart rate on the watch states 78-
How do I calculate a Max heart rate zone or a target zone?
I am 24 years old with mild high blood pressure!

An adults heart rate is normally between 80 and 100, so says the book I read. Athletes or people in good shape have lower heart rates. A good adult bp is 120/80 only if if gets to 160/90 and above should you start to worry, cut back on salt intake. I would have to look at your watch to know how to check it. Take it to a pharmacy, maybe they know how.

Is it normal to have such a high resting heart rate?

I am 195lbs and 5'5.5", my resting heart rate is all over the place, between 87 and 110 when I am just sitting around. I just got a heart monitor watch and cheast strap.

The better your physical condition, the lower the heartrate usually is. Marathon runners and professional cyclist sometimes have resting heartrate below 40, which is is a bit to much of a good thing. If you indeed have a very bad physical condition, do something about it and your heartrate will most likely go down a bit. If your condition is excellent, go see a doctor if you are worried.

Heart Rate watch says I burned 4,600 calories in a day..

This is from punching in my weight, and checking my heart rate every 20 minutes..I worked out for an hour that's where 800 of the calories came from...so okay this is the question.
I do this daily I eat under 2000 a day.
MY WEIGHT DOESN'T BUDGE.

Have you been sticking to this routine for awhile? Have you lost any weight on it?
You sound like your either on a plateau or not cutting calories enough, either way you need a shake up.
To lose weight faster but healhtily you need to eat between 1200-1550 cals aday..
Your exercise sounds great! Keep it up! But remember to drink lots and lots of water or you could be retaining fluids.

What should I keep my heart rate at when I exercise if I’m a 27-year-old male?

I'm trying to burn fat and get into better shape. I'm a 27-year-old male, weigh approximately 183 lbs, and am 6'2". When I get on a treadmill or stair master and watch the heart rate monitor, what's a good number for it to be at? And what's dangerously high?

use 220-age in yrs to get theoretical max HR
so, 220-27= 193 BPM

aim for ~75% of this figure ie around 144 bpm as a guide to aim for, to achieve conditioning

very high would be 90% of max ie 175 approx....wouldn't stay at this rate for too long

Do I need a heart rate monitor watch?

My brother was a cross country/track athlete and has a bunch of trophies/medals and he never used a heart rate monitor. His best time in 3 miles back in highschool was 16 mins, he won first place in regionals that one time. I dont know what grade he was in at the time.

For a 3 mile run you're mostly training an anaerobic metabolism.

Heart rate monitors are most useful for people trying to lose weight by maintaining target rates (to keep them from getting injured or overexerting).

They can also be used to monitor, track and help develop Aerobic, Anaerobic and Lacate thresholds. However they tend to become unreliable as the temperature goes up. How scientific do you want to be for your training?

No you don't need one -- but they are nice to have if you decide you want to train for longer races and need to control your pacing. E.g. 10K, 1/2 and full marathons.

I suggest you avoid the Polar garbage if you decide to buy one. I've destroyed 2 of these already but got them replaced via warranty -- the best bang for the buck are the Timex heart rate monitors for 1/4 the price and twice the reliability/water resistance.

Heart Rate Monitor / Watch with Software to See performance on PC?

I was wonderign what your experiences have been with heart rate monitors. I do a varied amount of exercise and was looking for a watch which will monitor my training and let me review it later on the PC. I have seen the garmin ones but they are expensive. Looking at under 150 to spend. Thanks

I have a polar heart moniter,you can track it on your pc too.I think they are a little less money than the garmin ones,which are really good from what I have heard,but I paid £60 for my Polar one and it works just great for me.

Does a "Polar" watch with heart rate function work on a "Life Fitness" treadmill?

Will it send the heart rate to the treadmill?

From what I've read on the special features of both, I'd say no.

Watch that monitors heart rate, speed and distance?

I'm hoping to find a watch that will measure three things while I'm jogging, my heart rate, my speed, and my distance traveled. I've found watches that monitor heart rate, and I've found ones that will track speed and distance, but not one that does all three. Any recommendations?

You might consider a pedometer. The second source lists some that can be worn on the wrist.

could someone recommend a heart rate monitor watch?

im looking for one below the £40 mark and one that is water proof. I was also wondering whether they all have to come with a chest strap ? i have tried to look for myself but places like argos and amazon are very limited on the facts of the watches and don't explain about the chest strap / waterproof-nes (this is key)

I got a heart rate monitor watch off ebay for like a a tener and there is a point on it that you touch with your finger and it reads your heart rate, and its water proof, I think its really good.

Heart Rate Monitor Watches??

I am planning to buy a HRM and plan to use it for mainly jogging. I decided to get the Nike Traix c5 but it has an chest attachement, which i just found out through ebay as i was looking for the best deal.... Can anyone suggest some good HRM's which also show calories burned, and which do not have those chest attachments???

Every heart rate monitor that actually works uses s chest strap. That's just the way they work. Anyone that doesn't is just giving you an estimate. I have a Polar CS3000, it's fantastic. You'll get used to strap, it freaked me out at first to.
