What are your tips for using a heart rate monitor with chest strap?
I am looking for a heart rate monitor watch but I am concerned that the chest strap is uncomfortable and that it might not work if I am not sweaty. Does it still work if I just spit on the sensor? will it dry up and then not work? I want to monitor my heart rate as I walk up and down a building.
aaah! i hate those. we have to wear those in personal fitness all the time. the strap is very uncomfortable at first, but as you get going, you forget it's even there. it still works if you're sweaty, but it gets all nasty and gross. =P and don't spit on it. that's gross. just wet your hands and spread the water over the sensors. but if you're just measuring your heartrate walking up and down a building, don't bother getting one. they're for hard core running not stair walking to work or wherever you go.

they r fine, u dont feel it bc you r so concentrated on running.
and yeah, before i put it on i splash some tap water onto it to get it going so any water is fine. it will always work bc u will naturally sweat more there bc there is something on you therefore making you warmer there…
they’re really good, definitely get one. and you can find your average pass and time and everything

I have a Nike monitor and just run it under the tap before I put it on – I run with it and don’t really notice it. It works fine, doesn’t dry up.
If it turns out it doesn’t work for you for some reason, you can get a special gel to put on it that will last longer (its the same gel they use when they give ultrasounds)

I have a sports bra that takes the place of a strap. It has the heart monitor built in. I really love it – it’s comfortable and works with my Polar watch and wearlink transmitter. I bought mine at numetrex.com I think they make a shirt for men too.
