What should I keep my heart rate at when I exercise if I’m a 27-year-old male?
I'm trying to burn fat and get into better shape. I'm a 27-year-old male, weigh approximately 183 lbs, and am 6'2". When I get on a treadmill or stair master and watch the heart rate monitor, what's a good number for it to be at? And what's dangerously high?
use 220-age in yrs to get theoretical max HR
so, 220-27= 193 BPM
aim for ~75% of this figure ie around 144 bpm as a guide to aim for, to achieve conditioning
very high would be 90% of max ie 175 approx....wouldn't stay at this rate for too long
good luck, be consistent and vary the routine to get your body to adapt
cheers

Your heart rate should be between 120 and 140 for the weight loss / fat burn zone.
